Abstract:

Wildlife tracking is one way that is essential to the wildlife conservation.
In the current tracking system, tracking devices also know as collars or backpacks are attached to the wild animals. Due to the high cost per unit of the current tracking devices and budget limitation, this project suggests the way to reduce the cost per unit of current tracking devices. There are additional constraint that need to consider. Weight and size must appropriate for wildlife. Power supply must be sufficient for long term use. The tracking devices using GPS to get the location itself and send it to the remote server by GPRS. When the server received the data that contains locations and ID of devices, the server stored it to the database. Subscriber can visit the website that displayed location of wild animals in the form of a Google Map. However, the locations of wild animals is not send to the server in real-time because it consumes power supply too much. Therefore it is better to send the location periodically. The result from preliminary experiment, the tracking device send locations to the remote server correctly.
The next steps is the system need to improvement and development to using in real-world environment.
