Abstract:

Managing energy consumption in buildings is a difficult issue to resolve.  The main reason is detailed consumption data cannot be monitored and analyzed in a timely manner, and collecting these data by human operators also takes a lot of time.  This article presents the development of a system for measuring and analyzing energy consumption information in office buildings using a network of appliances.  Appliances are equipped with wireless communication modules, then record and transfer data over the Internet as part of the Internet of Things.  Raw data are analyzed and visualized via a web application so that status of functional appliances can be traced in real-time. In addition, the surrounding environment condition such as light and temperature is collected for additional analysis.  The user can specify the desired duration of appliance usage. In case of violation, the web application alerts the user immediately

Experiments show that collecting and displaying measurement data on the web takes approximately 2-3 seconds after appliance’s status change.
